Protect Children Who Have Lost Safety and Education in the Earthquake
A powerful earthquake, followed by multiple aftershocks recently struck southern Philippines, impacting over 4 million students in Sarangani Province. The disaster have taken over a hundred casualties—the toll expected to rise—and forced more than 8,000 schools to suspend classes.
The quakes struck on the first day back to school after a holiday. Children were forced to flee in fear as classrooms and school buildings crumbled around them. They have lost not only their homes and schools, but also face immense threats to their safety, education, mental well-being, and a lack of clean water and basic necessities.
Save the Children has deployed an emergency team to the hard-hit areas. We are assessing urgent needs and preparing to deliver essential support to ensure affected children remain safe and return to learning as quickly as possible.
