Pass on Hope. Protect Childhood. Together, We Build Better Futures. A GIFT OF HOPE

What is Legacy Giving? Leaving a Legacy of Love for Children

Legacy giving is a meaningful way to extend your values and care that matter most to you. By leaving a gift to us in your will or naming us as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy, you can create hope and opportunities for children in need.

No matter the size of your gift, legacy giving can help children access healthcare, education, protection, and life-saving support. A legacy giving donation is more than a financial contribution. It is a lasting expression of love and care that can continue changing children’s lives for generations to come.

Why Support Us Through a Legacy Gift?

Millions of children around the world continue to face poverty, conflict, and crisis.

Through legacy giving, you can help children in Hong Kong and around the world build brighter futures. Your legacy giving donation is more than a gift. It is a legacy of hope for generations to come.

Building Better Futures with Hong Kong Children

Our Work

Our Hong Kong programmes focus on child protection and mental health in Hong Kong, promoting children’s physical and mental well-being and creating positive change that extends from individuals and families to the wider community. This includes:

  • Strengthening children’s social-emotional skills, mental well-being, and resilience through activities such as football and expressive arts. These programmes empower children to navigate future challenges with confidence and lead happier, healthier lives.
  • Working closely with families, partner organisations, and the government to address children’s unique protection needs, promote positive parenting, and create safe, nurturing, and non-violent environments where every child can grow up healthy, protected, and able to thrive.

A Legacy Donor’s Story

Mike, a Legacy Pledger

“I believe that a person’s values and character are shaped from an early age. Yet for children growing up amid conflict or natural disasters, where hunger, limited access to education, and the daily struggle to survive are part of everyday life, hope and happiness can seem far out of reach. That is why I chose to support Save the Children Hong Kong.

I hope my gift will help children grow up in a safe and healthy environment, giving them the opportunities, knowledge, and confidence they need to build a happy and bright future.”

FAQ

1) What happens if I do not make a Will?

What happens if I do not make a Will?

If you do not make a Will during your lifetime, your estate will be distributed according to the applicable intestacy laws and statutory order of succession. This may mean that your loved ones, or the causes and charities you care about, may not benefit in the way you intended. By making a Will, you can ensure that your wishes are clearly documented and carried out according to your intentions.

Why do I need to write a Will?

A will helps ensure that your loved ones are cared for and that your wishes are respected. By making a will, you can provide for those who matter most to you while deciding how you would like your legacy to be remembered.

Many people also choose to leave a gift to charity in their will, allowing their values and compassion to continue making a difference long into the future.

By including Save the Children Hong Kong in your will, your legacy can help vulnerable children in Hong Kong and around the world receive a healthy start in life, an opportunity to learn, protection from harm, and life-saving support in times of crisis.

How should I begin planning for a legacy donation?

The first step in planning a legacy donation is to consider how you would like to care for your loved ones while continuing to support the causes and values that matter most to you.

It is recommended that you:

1. Discuss your plans with a professional lawyer or financial advisor to understand the available options, legal requirements, and arrangements for legacy giving.

2. You may also contact Save the Children Hong Kong directly by calling (852) 21225612 or emailing Ms. Theresa Fung at [email protected] to learn more about the arrangements.

3) Types of Legacy Gifts

Do I need to be wealthy to leave a legacy gift?

Not at all. Legacy gifts of all sizes are valuable. Many people choose to leave a percentage of their estate or a specific amount that is meaningful to them.

What can I leave as a legacy gift?

You may choose to leave:

  • A specific sum of money
  • A percentage of your estate
  • The remainder of your estate after providing for family and loved ones
  • Property
  • Shares, or other assets (subject to legal and charitable requirements)
  • Other valuable assets

4) Policy Donation

How can I donate through life insurance? What is the minimum donation percentage?

You can donate by setting your desired charitable organisation as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy. Specifically, contact your insurance agent to designate at least 1% of your policy’s coverage amount to Save the Children Hong Kong. This allows your policy to continue creating a positive impact for children long into the future.
