HELP CHILDREN DEVASTATED BY THE CLIMATE EMERGENCY IN PAKISTAN
Three times as many people have died in torrential monsoon rains in Pakistan since the start of July compared to the same period last year, with the death toll reaching 1000, including 275 children, since the rains started. More than 8,238 homes have been damaged or destroyed and around 3 million people have been evacuated from flooded towns and villages, leaving them in extremely poor conditions with limited access to food, clean water, and basic services.
HOW ARE WE HELPING CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES IN PAKISTAN?
Save the Children first began working in Pakistan in 1979. In response to this monsoon floods, we aim to deliver child-focused, integrated humanitarian assistance that ensures children and their families have access to life-saving services and support for recovery, resilience, and protection.
The response targets to reach 1.4 million people including 658,000 children across most affected provinces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab and Sindh. Below are some highlights of our work to date, :
- 25 medical camps providing essential health services to 4,413 people
- 3,000 people are receiving clean drinking water through water trucking
- 816 families have received household items, hygiene kits, food items and tents
- Set up Child-Friendly Space (CFS) and Temporary Learning Center (TLC)
