THE SPIRIT OF INSPIRE CUP

“Play to Thrive: Inspire Cup” Charity Football Tournament 2026 (Inspire Cup) is more than a charity sporting event. It is an important extension and annual highlight of Save the Children Hong Kong’s Play to Thrive programme, as well as the grand finale of our 2026 Mental Health Campaign. Since its launch in 2023, Inspire Cup has engaged over 400 participants and benefited more than 900 children through the Play to Thrive programme. It serves as a platform to unite businesses, families, and communities through the power of football while championing children’s mental wellbeing. Funds raised from the event will support the Play to Thrive programme, which combines football with Social and Emotional Learning to equip children with the confidence, resilience, and emotional skills they need to navigate life’s challenges and thrive.

Eight-year-old Kai Long’s football skills are exceptional, but his true transformation lies in his emotional growth. Previously fixated on winning, he often struggled with emotional swings when performance fell short. To help him learn teamwork, his teacher recommended Save the Children Hong Kong’s “Play to Thrive” programme. By combining football with Social-Emotional Learning, Kai Long developed emotional regulation and resilience. Now, when facing setbacks, he encourages teammates instead of complaining, earning him a selection as class monitor.

Kai Long shares: “I used to blame teammates, but now I tell them, ‘It’s okay, let’s try again.’. Embracing “Growth First, Football Second,” Save the Children Hong Kong empowers children to build lifelong emotional skills through play.
