INDONESIA EARTHQUAKE

A powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake has ripped through Indonesia, causing significant damage. So far, at least 70 people have been reported killed, including children. More than 691,000 people were affected. This was the 11th magnitude 7.0-or-above earthquake globally in 2026. For families like theirs, it was more than a terrifying moment.
In this disaster, children have been particularly severely affected:
📍Disruption to Education: Over 8,000 children are facing school disruptions, with more than 500 schools damaged.
📍Loss of Shelter: More than 40,000 families left homeless.
CHILDREN NEED HELP TO RECOVER
Save the Children has worked in Indonesia since 1976, responding to major emergencies including the 2004 tsunami and the 2018 Sulawesi earthquake.
Together with local partners, we are assessing urgent needs and preparing support for affected children and families. Our response will focus on:
(1) Providing temporary shelter and repair materials for affected families
(2) Supporting families with access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene supplies
(3) Protecting children from safety and other risks
(4) Restoring children’s access to education
(5) Helping children recover safely from the disaster
