Hong Kong Children’s Mental Health
Save the Children Hong Kong encourages all sectors to care for the mental health of Hong Kong students in support of World Mental Health Day 2024. World Mental Health Day is designated on 10 October each year to raise awareness and understanding of mental health issues worldwide.
In recent years, the mental wellbeing of children has become a growing concern in Hong Kong, highlighting the urgent need for society to address the mental health issues of Hong Kong students.
- Statistics revealed that 25% of children and adolescents in Hong Kong were diagnosable with at least one form of mental disorder in 2022.
- The suicide figures in Hong Kong remained high in 2023, with a significant increase observed among those under the age of 15 and 15 to 24。

A survey from Save the Children Hong Kong on the mental well-being of candidates for the Hong Kong Diploma Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE) revealed that nearly 90% of the surveyed students reported that personal expectations often or occasionally caused them stress.

In the above survey, over 80% of surveyed students indicated that anxiety about the future was their main source of stress in the past six months.
