Save the Children Hong Kong held 2025 Annual Gala Dinner, bringing together caring individuals from different sectors, including Mr KK Chan, the Chief Secretary for Administration of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mr Donnie Yen, the acclaimed actor and Ambassador of Save the Children Hong Kong, and Mr Alex Fong, the renowned star and Charity Ambassador for the gala dinner, to raise funds for children in need across Hong Kong, Mainland China and around the world. Funds raised during the Gala will support vital programmes in child protection, education and mental wellbeing for children in vulnerable environments, helping them thrive and reach their full potential.

Guests Join Hands to Build a Brighter Future for Children

This year’s Gala Dinner was themed Wings of Hope, representing how children can grow stronger and overcome challenges. Kalina Tsang, the CEO of Save the Children Hong Kong said, “Every child should grow up in a safe, healthy and hopeful environment. Tonight, we are seeing how love and care from our community can turn into real support — a light in a child’s life that gives them the care and chances they need to fly towards a brighter future.”

Mr KK Chan, the Chief Secretary for Administration of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, joined the guests at the dinner in witnessing the power of compassion coming together. Delivering his remarks, Mr Chan said that the government places great importance on children’s mental health, recognising that good mental health helps children to grow, learn, and succeed. He also emphasised that protecting our children requires the collective efforts of the government, NGOs, schools, businesses, and the community, and when all sectors work together, we can create a brighter, more inclusive future for every child.

Save the Children Hong Kong Ambassador and acclaimed actor, Mr Donnie Yen, also attended to show his support. As the Ambassador, he has visited programmes in Mainland China and seen how children can change and grow when they get the help they need. He said, “Many children around the world still have limited access to education, food or healthcare. Every bit of help we give can be like wind beneath their wings — helping them feel supported and giving them a happy, healthy childhood and the power to shape their future.”

Helping Children in Hong Kong with Mental Health Challenges

This year’s Gala also focused on collective care and timely support to help children face mental health challenges. With more student suicides being reported, it’s clear that children’s emotional wellbeing needs urgent attention. A touching video titled “No Regrets” premiered during the night, shedding lights on the struggles of children in Hong Kong and reminding everyone to take a step to show their care and proactively offer a helping hand to children around them. When families, peers, and communities are willing to take that extra step—listening attentively and offering early care—a child’s life journey can be “rewound” to reset their pace and start anew. Save the Children Hong Kong calls on the public to actively care for and protect children, enabling them to spread their wings and soar in an environment of love and support.

Save the Children Hong Kong has been working closely with local schools and community partners to run programmes that help children enhance mental wellbeing and social-emotional skills. These includes programmes such as Healing Heart and Mind, Introducing Social and Emotional Learning to School, and Play to Thrive to help children build their resilience and self-expression skills through artistic creation and sports. In 2024, nearly 40,000 people benefited from these programmes. Looking ahead, the organisation will expand these efforts to secondary schools, reaching more adolescents and providing comprehensive support throughout their development.

The Wings of Hope Gala Dinner successfully raised public awareness of children’s mental health, marking an important step towards building a more inclusive and supportive environment for their growth.
