A devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake has hit Myanmar, causing destruction as far as Thailand and elsewhere in the region. It is the strongest earthquake to hit Myanmar in a century.
More than 1,700 people have reportedly died and thousands more injured – many are children. These figures are only likely to rise over the coming days as search and rescue operations continue. Many are feared to be trapped under the rubble.
Our teams are already distributing food and water to impacted communities. We are also moving quickly to launch an emergency response to ensure children and their families can get the support they need to mitigate the worst impacts of this disaster.
Our Children’s Emergency Fund allows us to respond wherever the need is greatest. It helps us to reach children quickly with the essentials they need to survive.
Please donate today to children in crisis.
HOW ARE WE HELPING CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES IN MYANMAR AND THAILAND?
Save the Children has been working in Myanmar since 1995 and in Thailand since 1979 and is ready to act alongside local partners. Over the coming weeks, we will work alongside local partners to scale up critical support for children across the worst impacted areas. While we’re working around the clock to finalise our response plan, activities are likely to include:
- Distributing the prepositioned essential emergency relief items to affected families
- Providing cash to families so they can buy food, medicine and other essentials
- Providing access to clean water, essential hygiene and sanitation items and health services
- Providing psychological support to children and their caregivers
WHY DONATE TO THE CHILDREN’S EMERGENCY FUND?
Your donations will be channelled to our Children’s Emergency Fund and used to empower children and their families devastated by crisis – like those in Myanmar – to stay safe, healthy and to rebuild their lives. Your donations will support children wherever the need is greatest.
