SAVE THE CHILDREN HONG KONG DISTRIBUTES HAND SANITISERS AND FACE MASKS TO PROTECT VULNERABLE CHILDREN & FAMILIES FROM CORONAVIRUS

Save the Children Hong Kong has distributed 5,000 bottles of hand sanitisers and more than 20,000 face masks to deprived children and their families in Hong Kong through a number of partner organisations, to help protect them from the coronavirus.

“We are very concerned about the coronavirus situation in Hong Kong and how it impacts children’s health and wellbeing,” said Carol Szeto, CEO of Save the Children Hong Kong. “Schools are closed and children are missing social interactions, impacting both their learning and their psychological well-being. It is critical that children receive information on what is happening and can talk about their fears and anxieties. And we must continue to raise awareness of personal hygiene in the community.”

Vulnerable children and families have limited access to important hygiene items in Hong Kong because of the shortage in supply and increased costs over the past few weeks. In addition to donating supplies, Save the Children Hong Kong is responding to the disease outbreak through other programmatic approaches to support communities that are affected by the coronavirus. Health and hygiene information, as well as resources to support parents to enhance children’s development are provided to the public.

“As an international leader in humanitarian response, we have an important role in ensuring children are kept safe during and after emergency situations,” said Carol Szeto. “This time, the coronavirus outbreak hits home in Hong Kong. It is our responsibility to work with local partners to deliver hope and support our community.”
