At Save the Children, we believe every child deserves a future. The Children’s Champion Award recognises those who make a significant positive impact on children’s lives in Hong Kong and/or around the world. Through their efforts, children are enabled to grow and thrive healthily, have the opportunity to learn, and be protected from harm. With their inspiring stories, we can motivate society to care for and support children.

Adjunct Professor, Department of Social Work and Social Administration, The University of Hong Kong
In addition to her academic career, Annie actively participates in various public and community services, including serving as the Vice-Chairperson of Connecting Hearts, President of the Hong Kong Social Workers Association, and Chairman of the Executive Committee of New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association.

Dr Hon Tik Chi Yuen, SBS, JP 
Legislative Councilor (Social Welfare)
Dr Tik is a Legislative Councilor (Social Welfare) and has served the community for almost 40 years. He has been involved in a variety of public service roles, focusing on education, welfare, health care, and community development policy.

Dr. Phyllis Chan
Honorary Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Psychiatry, LKS Medical Faculty, University of Hong Kong
Dr. Chan has extensive teaching experience with psychiatric professionals, and has been actively promoting children’s mental health. She is a member of the Education Commission and a Specialist in Psychiatry at Adventist Medical Center. She has previously served as Chief of Service at the Department of Psychiatry, Queen Mary Hospital.

Ms. Carol Szeto
CEO of Save the Children Hong Kong
Ms. Szeto has over twenty-five years of experience in the private and non-profit sectors, and she leads Save the Children Hong Kong as the CEO since 2020. Carol has a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University and an MBA in Finance from New York University.

Important Information

Eligibility of Candidate  
  • Nominee can be nominated in the name of an individual, a corporation or a philanthropic foundation. 
  • A Hong Kong resident irrespective of age, gender, nationality, and race; or a corporation incorporated, registered, or established in Hong Kong. 
  • Parental signature on the nomination form is required for nominees under 18. If using online nomination, the parents need to sign and return the slip included in the confirmation email. 
  • Individual nominees are not limited to specific sectors. Any individuals who have made significant contributions to children, including but not limited to the social welfare sector, education sector, healthcare sector, and parents, are eligible for nomination. 
  • There is no restriction on the timeframe or location for the contribution to children.  
  • Individual and corporate awardees should demonstrate outstanding contributions to children. Their contributions will be evaluated in three main areas: impact, inspiration, and sustainability. 
Nomination Criteria 
  • A candidate must be a Hong Kong resident, a company or foundation registered in Hong Kong. 
  • The individual candidate cannot be self-nominated or nominated by a relative. 
  • The nominator must be aged 18 or above and be a Hong Kong resident. 
  • The nominator can only make one nomination in one single year. 
  • Nominators must obtain prior consent from the nominees before making nominations. 
  • Members of the Judging Panel and staff of Save the Children Hong Kong are not eligible for nomination or to make nomination. 
Submission of Nomination Form 
  • Children’s Champion Award accepts online, by e-mail, mail or in-person nomination. 
  • The nomination form delivered by e-mail must reach Save the Children Hong Kong Award mailbox ([email protected]) by 15 May, 2024 (Wednesday), 23:59 HKT. Please mark “Children’s Champion Award 2024″ as the subject. 
  • The nomination form delivered by mail or in-person must reach Save the Children Hong Kong Office (Address: 8/F Pacific Plaza, 410-418 Des Voeux Road West, Sai Wan, Hong Kong) by 15 May, 2024 (Wednesday) (according to the postmark). Please mark “Children’s Champion Award 2024″ on the envelope 
  • The nomination form must be confirmed by the nominator and the candidate. 
  • The nominator should describe the behaviour carried out by the candidate contributing to children, including the years of service and his/her/their philosophy, in no more than 800 words. Supporting document(s) and recommendation letter(s) are welcomed but not a must. 
  • The application of nomination is free of charge.

Selection Criteria

Nominees who have demonstrated excellence in the three assessment domains, namely impact, inspiration and sustainability will be presented with the Award.

IMPACT: The contribution made by the individual or corporate should have a significant impact towards transforming the lives of children in Hong Kong and/or around the world.
INSPIRATION: The contribution made should be inspiring on how they address the needs of children in Hong Kong and/or around the world; and have the potential to inspire others to act upon.
SUSTAINABILITY: The contribution made should be sustainable, scalable and have the potential to create long-lasting positive change for children in Hong Kong and/or around the world. 

  • There is no pre-set limit to the number of awards to be given out.  
  • A trophy will be presented to the awardee at the ceremony. Corporate awardee(s) will also have the right to use the “Children’s Champion Award Logo”.

  • There are no pre-set sectors as candidates. For example, candidates can be individuals with educational, social welfare or child wellbeing backgrounds. He/she can also be person who made significant contributions to children, such as parent, journalists, etc.
Selection Procedure
  • Short-listed individual candidates will be separately notified about the interview and required to attend a selection interview with the judging panel in late June. The interview will be conducted in either Chinese or English and will typically last between 15 to 20 minutes.
  • The judging panel consists of representatives from Save the Children Hong Kong and individuals from diverse fields and various sectors of society, ensuring a comprehensive and fair evaluation process incorporating different perspectives. 
  • Public Voting: 30% of the final score is contributed by online public voting, enhancing the credibility of the award selection process through public involvement.

Result Announcement
  • Awardees must attend the Award Presentation Ceremony on 27 July 2024 (Saturday).
  • Awardees are required to attend all media interviews pre-arranged by the organiser(s) and activities related to the promotion of the award thereafter.
Commitment of the Shortlisted Candidates and Awardees
  1. Shortlisted candidates and Award recipients are required to provide articles, accompanied by relevant photos and materials, showcasing the dedication and the positive changes they have made in the lives of children.
  2. These materials will be utilised for communication and promotional purposes, aiming to disseminate the inspiring work and positive outcomes achieved by the award recipients in benefitting children.
  3. Shortlisted candidates and Award recipients are requested to engage in organiser’s public relations and media activities, including but not limited to interviews and press releases, to raise awareness about their notable achievements and the significance of their contributions to children.
