In the midst of relentless fights, there are individuals showing exceptional resilience, fighting to survive, and even being born, bringing hope to the situation. Since the conflict erupted in Sudan in April 2023, nearly half of the population has faced severe consequences. Save the Children has made a significant impact by operating medical and nutrition centres, reaching 250,000 people, including over 135,000 children, and providing essential items to displaced families.

Amidst the unstable conditions, medical supplies are inadequate, as health workers and facilities are often targeted. Unlike her experience with the first childbirth, Nafeesa was unable to undergo ultrasound scans or receive nutritional supplements during the birth of her second son until we provided her with the necessary medical examinations and medication from our clinic.

To offer vital healthcare services for people in need, we have deployed our Emergency Health Unit to support mobile services, such as healthcare treatment for diseases, vaccinations, maternal, newborn, and child healthcare, malnutrition care, and psychosocial support. Furthermore, in response to a cholera outbreak – a highly contagious and life-threatening disease, particularly for children – we have established a specialised treatment centre, conducting clean-up campaigns in schools and hospitals and educating communities on disease prevention.
