Many children in Thailand’s minority communities miss out on preschool education due to a lack of age-appropriate facilities and resources. Additionally, young parents often lack adequate knowledge about early child development and access to parenting guidance and support. Save the Children’s LEARN project focuses on early childhood development by equipping schools with essential resources, conducting positive parenting workshops, and raising child protection awareness, ensuring quality care and learning both at home and in educational settings for children from minority ethnic communities.
A Future Father’s Journey of Discovery
Afir, a 25-year-old new expectant father living at a remote village in Yala province, participated in a LEARN programme positive parenting workshop to prepare for fatherhood and create a nurturing environment for his future children. The experience offered him new insights into child-rearing and significantly boosted his confidence for future parenthood.
“I used to think raising children was straightforward. Everyone around me didn’t take parenting seriously.” Afir candidly shared his realisation, “After attending the workshop, I understood the importance of balancing love and discipline to ensure a child’s healthy development.” admitted Afir.
The LEARN programme emphasises hands-on learning to ensure participants can put the acquired techniques into effect. By systematically introducing these practices, the programme lays a strong foundation for children to grow and thrive. Moreover, it actively advocates for broader community and governmental support, to highlight the significance of early education and development.
