Save the Children Hong Kong’s annual Golf Tournament is one of our signature fundraising events to support our cause. This year, funds raised will support our local Social Emotional Learning (SEL) programme across primary schools in Hong Kong. Message from Committee Chair – John Kim

Save The Children and its Golf Committee would like to extend our warm welcome and heart-felt gratitude to all of you joining and sponsoring us at this year’s Golf Tournament.

This year’s event will sponsor an important cause that most parents of young children can relate to: Children go through a wide variety of social and emotional challenges in their lives in and outside of schools. As new entrants to the society, they often struggle to cope with eagerness to make and retain friends, peer pressure in all(!) sorts of aspects, and competitive tension in academic, sports and other fields of interest. Needless to say, wealth gap and exposure to social media only add to the tall tasks they face. As a father of two 6-year olds, I certainly observe all of these in my children’s daily lives.

Today, certain private or international schools in Hong Kong are equipped with inhouse student counselors and well-established social and emotional training programs that systematically support the children to overcome these challenges. Unfortunately, however, many of the public schools in our community do not benefit from resources to do the same, and the children lack access to such counseling and programs that are genuine necessities to them in today’s environment.

Since 2023, Save The Children Hong Kong has at the forefront of addressing the unmet needs by rolling out a Social Emotional Learning (SEL) program targeting primary school students in Hong Kong. The program has been an immense success so far, with overwhelmingly positive feedback from children, faculty and parents alike, and we are committed to expanding our efforts here in Hong Kong.

With the proceeds from this year’s Golf Tournament, we aim to support 360 primary school children and 350 adults, including facilitators, teachers and parents, through various training and workshop sessions Additionally, over 2 000 individuals are engaged through community campaigns and school events designed to enhance students’ social and emotional development.

With your support, we can make a difference to the future of the children in our community.
