Prior to founding “Principal Chan Free Tutorial World”, Principal Chan Hung was the founding principal of a Direct Subsidy Scheme (DSS) secondary school, the Secretary-General of the Hong Kong DSS Council, and the Vice-Chairman of the Hong Kong Association of Private Schools. In 2009, feeling that Hong Kong’s educational system was neglecting the learning rights of disadvantaged students, Principal Chan resigned from his position as a secondary school principal, gave up a million-dollar salary, and became an educational volunteer. He established the free tutoring platform to provide free tutoring services and other educational support to underprivileged students.

Over the past 13 years, his selfless spirit has inspired over 24,000 dedicated individuals to become volunteer tutors. They have provided one-on-one voluntary tutoring to over 21,000 underprivileged students in Hong Kong, and over 1,000 students have gone on to higher education with their assistance. Additionally, his two community centres serve over 5,000 underprivileged students, and each year, over 100 students showcase their talents, achieve qualifications and awards in various fields. Many students have also pursued university education across Greater China. His novel 青春出於籃 won the Hong Kong Chinese Literature Biennial Award (Youth and Children’s Literature category), leveraging the power of children literature to make a positive impact.
